It’s been nearly a month since the league instituted the new rules to prevent players from engaging in the kind of domestic violence that led to the death of her husband, and it’s still unclear whether any of the rules are enough to stop the abuse.
In a statement Thursday, the NFLPA and NFL Players Association said the new “culture code” was in response to the violence that players have been exposed to over the last two weeks, and that it has “proven effective at curbing domestic violence in our league.”
“The league has worked tirelessly over the past several months to ensure that the league has a safe environment for our players and their families, and has taken action to create and enforce the new code, which is in place for the safety of all of our players,” the statement said.
“As the league continues to address the needs of our teams, players and families, we will continue to work diligently to ensure we are providing the safest environment for all of those who work in the game.”
A spokesperson for the NFL told The Associated Press on Thursday that the NFL’s “Culture Code is designed to be a blueprint for the conduct of our employees and is designed for a culture that fosters respect for one another and encourages the sharing of ideas and ideas of respect.
The league and its employees will continue working to ensure our workplace and workplace environment is safe and supportive of our team.”
The statement added that the “culture is meant to be used as a framework for understanding the ways in which each of us contribute to the overall welfare of the players, coaches, staff and organization.
It is not intended to be an excuse for any actions that may occur.”
According to a recent report from the AP, players have reportedly been harassed and attacked by fellow players on social media.
A source with knowledge of the situation told the AP that a number of NFL players have reached out to police in recent weeks to report the behavior, and said that the issue is “far from over.”
“We are in the process of talking to the league and trying to determine what actions will be taken and if they need to be taken,” the source told the newspaper.
